Puffy Fried Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 cups Flour
    1 1\\4 tsp. Salt
    3 tsp. Baking Powder
    3 tbsp. Sugar
    2 tbsp. Shortening
    1 1\\4 C. Milk
    Salad Oil for Deep Frying
Preparation
    Sift flour, measure, and sift again with salt, baking powder, and sugar. Cut in shortening, and add milk to make a soft dough just firm enough to roll. Cover bowl and let dough stand for 30 to 60 min. Roll 1\\4 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into diamond shaped pieces.
    Heat about 1 inch of oil in frying pan 370\u00b0 to 380\u00b0. Add a few pieces at a time; turn at once, so they will puff evenly. Then turn back to brown on both sides. Drain on paper toweling. Serve with butter or honey. Makes 4 dozen.
