Ingredients

3 c. cake flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. water or milk
4 Tbsp. caramelized sugar
3 egg whites, beaten stiff
Preparation

Sift flour, measure and add baking powder and salt.
Sift three times.
Cream butter, add sugar gradually and cream until light. Add egg yolks and vanilla and beat.
Add flour mixture alternately with water or milk.
Add caramelized sugar.
Fold in egg whites. Bake in two 9-inch layer cake pans in 350\u00b0 oven 20 to 25 minutes.
