French Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. green or yellow split peas
    2 onions, chopped
    6 c. water
    4 carrots, sliced
    2 stalks celery, diced
Preparation
    Wash peas and put in 6-quart pot.
    Add 6 cups water and 2 onions.
    Cook on low heat for 45 minutes.
    Add carrots and celery. Cook for an additional 30 minutes on low heat, continuing to be sure it remains boiling.
    Serves 4 to 6.
