Red Cabbage - German Style(Sweet And Sour) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 3/4 lb. red cabbage
    1/2 c. vinegar
    8 whole cloves
    2 big bay leaves
    1/2 c. Crisco
    1 medium onion, sliced thin
    2 apples
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. salt
    2 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Cut cabbage in half and slice thin.
    Place in a large kettle of boiling water for 10 minutes.
    Drain.
    Put cabbage back in pot and add all other ingredients.
    Pour the boiling water on last. Bring all to a boil and simmer for 2 to 3 hours.
    Be sure to use a close-fitting lid.
