Westhaven Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. dates, cut
    1 c. hot water
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. butter
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs, well beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 heaping tsp. cocoa
    1 3/4 c. flour (after sifted)
    1/2 c. nut meats
    cake of German sweet chocolate
    whipped cream
Preparation
    Pour hot water over dates and soda.
    Cool.
    Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, vanilla, cocoa, flour and nuts if desired. Sprinkle small chocolate pieces on top.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until toothpick inserted is \"clean.\"
    Serve with whipped cream.
