Swiss Steak - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 lb. round steak
3 Tbsp. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. chili powder
2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening
1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
1 onion, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
1 green pepper, sliced
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Preparation

Cut meat into serving sizes (about 6).
Combine flour, salt, pepper and chili powder.
Pound 2 tablespoons of mixture into meat. Heat shortening in a skillet; brown meat on both sides.
Drain excess fat from skillet.
Add undrained tomatoes, onion, celery, carrot, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.
Cover and simmer for 1 hour or until tender.
Remove meat; place on a platter.
Skim excess fat off sauce.
Combine 1/4 cup of water with remaining flour mixture and stir into sauce.
Serve with rice or noodles.
