Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Add soda and salt. Add vanilla to hot water and fold water into cake. Bake in 9 x 13-inch pan at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until done.
Icing For Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake: Bring margarine, cocoa and whole milk to boil.
Remove from heat and add powdered sugar and vanilla.
Mix until smooth and of spreading consistency.
This is my favorite chocolate cake.

Beat butter until creamy

Set pan in cold water and leave until cold.
Add butter and vanilla.
Beat mixture until it becomes thick and creamy. Pour into buttered tin and, when set, cut in squares.
This recipe is 50 years old.
Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
In large bowl, mix sugar, walnuts, oats, butter and flour.
Use fingers until crumbs form; reserve 1 1/2 cups.
Press remaining crumbs in bottom of 9-inch square baking dish.

Turn filling into a pastry lined pan. Cover with top crust. Seal edges, and cut slits in the top crust.
Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 30 to 35 minutes.

Empty box of raisins into a pot.
Add water until raisins are covered.
Stir in sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Bring to a boil and simmer until raisins are large and soft.
Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons flour, depending on how much water remains in the raisins.
Set filling aside to cool.

Heat water, raisins and oil until boiling.
Set aside to cool. When cool, add sugar and slightly beaten egg.
Add to mixture 1 3/4 cups flour and the spices.
Beat until smooth; add nuts.
Pour into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch greased pan.
Bake in a 375\u00b0 oven for 20 minutes.
When cool, sprinkle powdered sugar over all.
Cut into squares.
