West Haven Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 cup chopped dates
1-1/2 cups boiling water
1 teas. baking soda
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1-1/2 cups flour
1/4 teas. salt
3/4 teas. baking soda
small bag chocolate chips
2 Tabl. sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preparation

Pour boiling water over dates and 1 teas. baking soda. Let cool.

Cream shortening and sugar and then beat in eggs. Add cooled date mixture.

Add flour,salt and remaining 3/4 teas. baking soda. Combine.

Spread in baking pan and top with chocolate chips, sugar and chopped nuts.

Can be topped with whipping cream before serving if desired.
