Ingredients

3 1/4 cups self-rising flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp powdered sugar
4 1/2 tbsp butter
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Preparation

Preheat oven to 425\u00b0F. Grease a 9 inch square cake pan.
Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl. Cut in butter then stir in buttermilk until combined. Turn dough out onto a floured work surface and knead until smooth. Press into a 3/4 inch-thick disc then cut out 2 inch rounds. Place in prepared pan and bake for 15 mins. Serve warm.
