Date And Walnut Scones - cooking recipe

2 1/4 cups self-rising flour
2 1/2 tbsp butter, chopped
3 oz dates, chopped
1 oz walnuts, chopped
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 None egg
Preparation

Preheat oven to 425\u00b0F. Lightly grease a large baking sheet. Sift flour into a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Add dates, walnuts and sugar. Make a well in the center. Mix milk and egg, reserve 1 tbsp, then pour remaining mixture into well. Mix until just combined then turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Roll out until about 2/3 inch thick and cut into 12 triangles. Transfer to prepared pan, brush with remaining milk and egg mixture and bake for 12-15 mins, until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
