1 cup sugar
-1 None Custard
2 1/2 cups milk
1 1/4 cups heavy cream
2 None cinnamon sticks
2 None whole cloves
4 None large eggs, beaten lightly
2 None large egg yolks
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325\u00b0F. To make the caramel, combine sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small heavy-bottomed saucepan. Stir over medium heat, without boiling, until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil. Boil, without stirring, until golden brown. Pour into an 8 inch round cake pan, tilting pan to coat base.
For the custard, bring milk, cream and spices to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 15 mins. Discard spices.
Combine eggs, egg yolks, sugar and vanilla in a bowl. Gradually whisk in milk mixture until just combined. Strain into cake pan over caramel. Place pan in a deep baking dish with enough boiling water to come halfway up sides of pan. Bake for 50 mins, or until custard is just set.
Remove pan from water and let cool. Cover flan and refrigerate overnight.
