Ingredients

1 1/3 cups white self-rising flour
1 cup whole wheat self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
8 tbsp (1 stick) butter, melted
1 cup plain yogurt
2 None eggs
1 tsp finely grated orange peel
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped pitted dried dates
None None FOR THE ORANGE SYRUP
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp finely grated orange peel
1/4 cup orange juice
Preparation

Preheat the oven to 400\u00b0F. Grease a 12-cup muffin pan.
Sift flours and sugar into large bowl. Stir in combined butter, yogurt, eggs and orange peel. (Do not overmix; mixture should be lumpy.) Stir in dates. Spoon into muffin cups.
Bake for 20 mins, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
Meanwhile, for the orange syrup, place all ingredients with 1/4 cup water in small saucepan on high heat. Stir until sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer, uncovered, for 2 mins.
Cool muffins in pan for 2 mins. Remove from pan to a wire rack set over a baking pan. Pierce muffins all over with skewer. Pour hot syrup over hot muffins.
