Creamy Potato And Onion Gratin - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1 None large onion, sliced
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp chopped fresh sage
1 None clove garlic, chopped
2 tbsp flour
2 cups heavy cream
1 None bay leaf
1 bag (28 oz) sweet, tiny white/yellow potatoes, thinly sliced
1 None small red pepper, diced
None None chives, for garnish
Preparation
-
Heat oven to 350\u00b0F. In a covered skillet over medium heat, cook onion, sage and garlic in butter for 10 mins or until onions soften. Remove the cover and cook, stirring occasionally until onions are deep golden brown (for about 20 mins). If the pan seems dry, add water to prevent burning. Stir in flour. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish. In a pan, over medium heat, simmer heavy cream and bay leaf for 10 mins. Remove the bay leaf. Season generously with salt and pepper.
Grease 9 x 2 inch casserole. Reserve 1 1/2 cups sliced potatoes. Toss onions, potatoes and red pepper together in a casserole. Arrange reserved potatoes on the top. Pour the cream over potatoes.
Place the pan on a baking sheet. Cover the top with aluminum foil. Bake for 30 mins. Remove foil. Bake until potatoes are tender, golden and bubbling in the center (about 30 mins longer). Let stand for 10 mins before serving.
