Spiced Pumpkin Scone - cooking recipe

4 tbsp (1/2 stick) cold butter, plus additional, to serve
3 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar, plus additional, for sprinkling
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp mixed spice, such as pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 None egg
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup canned pumpkin
3 tbsp milk, for glazing
Preparation

Preheat the oven to 400\u00b0F. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
Place butter, flour, baking powder, sugar and spices in a food processor; pulse until fine crumbs form. Or rub butter into dry ingredients with fingertips.
Whisk egg, buttermilk and pumpkin in a medium bowl. Add to flour mixture. Pulse or stir to combine.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Dust dough with flour so you can shape the dough without it sticking to your hands. Form into an 8-inch round. Place on prepared pan. Brush with milk and sprinkle with additional brown sugar. Cut 8 wedges into the dough without separating the sections.
Bake for 25 mins, or until well risen and golden. Separate sections and serve with butter.
