Date And Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 ounces flour
    3 teaspoons baking powder
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    2 ounces soft brown sugar
    3 ounces chopped dates
    2 ounces black treacle
    1 1/2 ounces chopped walnuts
    1 ounce butter
    1/4 pint milk
Preparation
    Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin. Preheat the oven to 350F/ gas 4.
    Sieve the flour, salt, baking powder and soda into a bowel. Add the dates and nuts.
    Heat the sugar, treacle, butter and milk gently until the sugar dissolves, stirring carefully.
    Stir with a metal spoon into the dry ingredients, mixing well. Do not beat.
    Pour the batter into the prepared tin.
    Bake for 1 hour.
