Mushroom Barley Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 teaspoon oil
    1 medium onion, diced
    2 cups mushrooms, fresh and sliced
    1/4 cup pearl barley
    4 cups water
    4 cups chicken broth or 4 cups vegetable broth
    black pepper, to taste
    1 pinch thyme
    1 bay leaf
Preparation
    Heat dutch oven or large pan over medium-high heat.
    Add mushrooms and onions, cook until gold, about 3 minutes.
    Add all other ingredients and bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat to low, and simmer until the barley is tender, about 1-1/2 hours.
