1 lb fine cornmeal
1 tablespoon salt
1 pinch baking soda
1 egg
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup buttermilk
water, as needed
Preparation

Mix all of the ingredients except water to make batter of a thick consistency. If batter is too thick, add water, a Tbs at a time until batter is thinned a little.
Preheat a deep fat fryer with vegetable oil in it up to 375 degrees F. Drop dough by Tbs into fat and cook until golden brown. Serves 6.
