Tomato Basmati - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 cup vegetable oil
    2 onions, sliced
    1 teaspoon onion seeds
    1 teaspoon gingerroot, finely chopped
    1 teaspoon crushed garlic
    1/2 teaspoon turmeric
    1 teaspoon chili powder
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    14 ounces canned tomatoes
    2 1/2 cups basmati rice
    2 1/2 cups water
Preparation
    Heat oil in a pan. Add onions and fry on medium heat, stirring for 5 minutes, until golden brown.
    Add onion seeds, ginger, garlic, turmeric, chili powder, salt. Stir to combine.
    Reduce heat and add tomatoes and stir for 10 minutes, breaking them up.
    Add rice, stirring gently to coat the rice completely. Add water. Cover the pan and cook over low heat until the water has been absorbed and rice is cooked (about 10 minutes).
