Christmas Cranberry Appetizer - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 tablespoon butter
    2 cups thinly sliced onions
    1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
    1/2 cup dried cranberries
    1 tablespoon sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon grated orange rind
    16 crackers
    8 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese
Preparation
    Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and saute 15 to 18 minutes, or until golden and tender.
    Stir in vinegar, cranberries, sugar, salt, and orange rind; Cook, stirring occasionally, 2 to 4 minutes or until liquid is reduced to about 2 tablespoons.
    Spread cream cheese onto the crackers.
    Top each with cranberry compote.
