Apple Cake (Apfelkuchen) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    Cake
    1 cup shortening
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
    3 1/2 cups flour, sifted
    5 teaspoons baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 1/3 cups milk
    Topping
    8 cups apples, pared, cored and thinly sliced
    1 cup sugar
    2 tablespoons flour
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 dash nutmeg
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F.
    Cake:.
    In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs and lemon extract; beat well.
    In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition.
    Pour mixture into a lightly greased and floured 10-1/2\"x14-3/4\" pan. Top with filling and bake for 1 hour or until cake tests done.

    Combine all ingredients in a bowl; mix well. Spread over cake to cover.
