Cherry Winks - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 Tbsp. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped pecans
    1 c. chopped dates
    1/3 c. maraschino cherries
    2 1/2 c. cornflakes, crushed
    extra cherries for decorating
Preparation
    Sift together dry ingredients.
    Combine shortening and sugar; cream well.
    Add eggs, milk and vanilla.
    Blend in dry ingredients, mix well.
    Add pecans, dates and chopped cherries; mix well.
    Shape into ball using about a tablespoonful for each cookie.
    Roll each ball of dough in cornflakes.
    Place on greased baking sheet.
    Top each cookie with 1/4 of a cherry.
    Bake in moderate oven (375\u00b0) for 10 to 12 minutes.
    Do not stack or store until cold.
