Frozen Apricot Cream - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 stick butter
    2 1/2 pkg. slivered almonds
    1 1/2 c. vanilla wafer crumbs
    1 qt. vanilla ice cream*
    10 oz. jar apricot preserves
Preparation
    *I found it easier to slice from a half gallon package the equivalent of 1 quart.
