Sweets For The Sweet, White Valentine Cookie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    cherry or other filling
Preparation
    Mix shortening, sugar and eggs thoroughly.
    Stir in vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and blend.
    Chill dough.
    Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
    Roll dough 1/16-inch thick on floured board.
    Cut out with heart shaped cookie cutter, cutting 2 alike for each cookie. Place the bottom pieces on lightly greased baking sheet.
    Spread a rounded teaspoonful of filling on each.
    Cover with top cookie. Press edges together with floured fork or fingertips.
    Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until browned.
    Makes 4 1/2 dozen.
