Pickled Squash - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. thinly sliced squash
    6 medium white onions, sliced
    1/4 c. salt
    5 c. white sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    3 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Cover squash with salt and crushed ice.
    Mix and let stand 3 hours.
    Drain water.
    Combine all ingredients and pour over squash.
    Heat to a boil and pack in jars and seal.
