English Butter Cakes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. butter (not margarine)
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg yolk
    1 egg white
    2 1/2 c. flour
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar.
    Mix in egg yolk.
    Knead in sifted flour.
    Grease small cookie sheet.
    Press mixture out to 1/2-inch thick.
    Beat egg white and spread on top.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20 minutes, until light brown.
    Cut in squares or diamonds.
