Old Family Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. chopped onions
    1/4 c. chopped green pepper
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 1/2 lb. hamburg
    3/4 c. milk
    1 can cream of mushroom soup or celery soup
    salt and pepper to taste
    2 c. grated raw potatoes
    bread crumbs
Preparation
    Saute chopped onions and green pepper in shortening.
    Add hamburg and fry just until meat is slightly cooked in loose pieces. Do not brown.
    Add the milk and soup; stir gently. Alternately layer first the hamburg mixture, then grated potatoes and salt and pepper in a well-greased 2 1/2-quart casserole. Finish with a layer of hamburg.
    Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 1 hour.
    Serves 6 to 8.
