Old-Fashioned Nut Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1/4 c. rum or brandy
3/4 lb. (3 sticks) butter, softened
2 c. sugar
6 large eggs
8 c. coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans (about 2 lb.)
dry sherry
confectioners sugar
Preparation

Lightly grease a 10-inch tube pan with solid vegetable shortening.
Pan should be 4 1/2 inches deep and a single unit pan (not with a removable bottom).
Line the pan bottom with wax paper and cut to fit.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; then set aside.
Combine milk and rum; set aside.
Preheat oven to 275\u00b0.
