Pralines - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda (level)
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. butter flavoring
    2 c. chopped pecans
    1 Tbsp. margarine
Preparation
    Mix soda and buttermilk; then dissolve sugar.
    Use a big saucepan and boil slowly into soft ball stage 234\u00b0 (236\u00b0 if damp weather).
    Mixture turns brown as it cooks, but needs stirring constantly.
    Remove from fire and add flavors, margarine and pecans.
    Stir until it begins to look like its ready to sugar or cream.
    Drop in small cakes on wax paper.
    Makes about 30 pralines.
