Old Fashioned Stack Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening or butter
1 egg
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 c. cooked dried fruit, drained
Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening together.
Add egg and beat.
Add dry ingredients together. Add alternately to batter with buttermilk and vanilla.
Divide into 6 equal parts.
Roll thin. Fit each into a 9-inch cake pan.
Prick with fork.
Bake each layer at 475\u00b0 for 5 to 10 minutes or until medium brown.
Cool. Mash cooked fruit which has been drained.
Sweeten to taste with additional sugar.
Spread fruit between layers.
Apples, peaches or apricots may be used.
Add 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon if apples are used.
