Ingredients

1 c. Crisco
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk
2 c. sugar
4 to 5 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

In a deep bowl, cream the Crisco and sugar. Add eggs (unbeaten).
Mix thoroughly. Add vanilla.
Stir soda in buttermilk until dissolved and add to mixture. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in enough flour to make a stiff dough.
Knead a small amount of dough at a time.
Roll out to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into rounds or with cookie cutter.
Bake at 475\u00b0 until lightly brown.
Makes 4 to 5 dozen.
