Texas Hash - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped onion
    2 Tbsp. shortening or oil
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 c. chopped green pepper
    2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
    1/2 c. rice
    1 (No. 2 1/2) can tomatoes
Preparation
    Saute onions in shortening in 10-inch skillet until brown. Stir in ground beef, green peppers, salt, pepper, chili powder and rice.
    Place in casserole dish.
    Pour tomatoes over mixture; cover. Bake at 350\u00b0 about 30 minutes.
    Yields 6 servings.
