Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 lb. butter
    2 c. light brown sugar
    2/3 c. white Karo
    1 can Eagle Brand condensed milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    shake of salt (if desired)
    1/2 c. chopped nuts (if desired)
Preparation
    Cook all but vanilla and nuts to 246\u00b0 (soft ball stage).
    Add vanilla and nuts.
    Pour into well-greased 8 x 8-inch pan.
    When cold, turn upside down on flat surface and let it fall out.
    Cut in strips and then into pieces.
    Wrap in squares of wax paper.
