Bread Custard Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. crumbled bread
    1 Tbsp. butter
    2/3 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg
    3 c. scalded milk, just brought to boil
Preparation
    Combine the crumbs and milk; bring to boiling point.
    Add the butter and stir into the egg and sugar, beaten light, in the pudding dish.
    Add vanilla; surround the dish with hot water in a cake tin.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until a knife when inserted will come out clean, about 45 minutes.
    If desired, add a cup of grated apple to the mixture.
