    1 c. melted shortening (1/2 c.)
    4 beaten eggs (2)
    1 qt. buttermilk (1/2 qt.)
    5 c. unsifted flour (2 1/2 c.)
    5 tsp. baking soda (2 1/2 tsp.)
    2 tsp. salt (1 tsp.)
