Ingredients

1 c. sliced dates
1/2 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
3 eggs, separated
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder.
Mix dates and nuts with flour until well coated.
Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored; add sugar, then add date-flour mixture and vanilla.
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Pour into greased 8-inch square pan.
Bake at 350\u00b0 about 30 minutes.
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
