Tropical Frosting - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. water
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. white vinegar
    3 egg whites
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 lb. fresh grated coconut
Preparation
    Combine sugar, water, salt and vinegar in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until clear without stirring.
    Cook until mixture forms a thin thread when dropped from spoon (242\u00b0 on candy thermometer).
    Beat egg whites until stiff.
    Add hot syrup, beating constantly.
    Continue beating until frosting holds shape.
    Add vanilla and coconut.
    Spread frosting between layers.
    Sprinkle coconut over top and sides.
    Put freshly grated coconut over.
