Cherry Cream Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (9-inch) pie shell
    1/2 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 1/2 c. milk
    3 egg yolks, beaten
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 egg whites
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 can Thank You cherries
    1/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Bake and cool pie shell.
    In saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of sugar, cornstarch and salt.
    Stir in milk.
    Cook until thick.
    Add a little mixture to egg yolks.
    Return all to hot mixture.
    Cook for about 2 minutes.
    Put in butter and vanilla.
    Pour into pie shell until it cools a little.
    Stir 1/4 cup of sugar in can of cherries and put on top of pie.
