Pickled Beets(Rodbeter) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. white vinegar
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 (1 lb.) can sliced beets (including juice)
    1/2 to 1 tsp. salt
    pepper to taste
    whole cloves (optional)
Preparation
    Combine vinegar, sugar, juice from beets, salt and pepper in stainless steel 2-quart saucepan.
    Add a few cloves tied in cloth bag.
    Bring to boil.
    Boil 2 minutes.
    Meanwhile, place beets in glass, stainless steel or enamel bowl.
    Pour hot marinade over beets.
    Let cool, uncovered.
    When mixture is room temperature, cover bowl.
    Refrigerate at least 12 hours.
