Ingredients

3 large onions
1 qt. beef broth
1/4 c. white wine or sherry
4 slices thick sliced bread
Parmesan cheese
3 Tbsp. butter
salt
Swiss cheese, grated
2 Tbsp. butter
Preparation

Preheat broiler.
Butter both sides of bread.
Arrange on baking sheet.
Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Broil 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown.
Cut into squares and set aside.
Slice onions thinly.
Melt butter in large skillet and add onions.
Saute over medium heat about 15 minutes or until onions turn light golden color.
Heat broth in saucepan.
Add sauteed onions.
Season with salt to taste.
