Stewed Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 large tomatoes, peeled or 2 1/2 c. canned tomatoes
    1 Tbsp. butter
    2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
    2 tsp. sugar
    1/8 tsp. cloves
    salt
    freshly ground pepper
    1 slice fresh bread, torn in pieces
Preparation
    This is the old-fashioned way!
    If it is too sweet, use less sugar.
