Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. lard (not margarine)
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
4 Tbsp. molasses
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Mix together first 4 ingredients.
Let stand 20 minutes.
Add rest and mix.
Make small balls (about 1 teaspoon batter).
Roll in extra sugar, place on a greased cookie sheet.
Sprinkle 2 or 3 drops of water on top of each.
They will flatten out and crackle.
