Grandmother'S Cornbread Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. flour
    4 Tbsp. sugar
    1 c. cornmeal
    1 1/2 c. buttermilk
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 egg, beaten
    4 Tbsp. melted shortening
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 425\u00b0.
    Sift together flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking soda and salt.
    Add beaten egg and milk to make a stiff batter.
    Add shortening and beat until well mixed.
    Pour into greased pan.
    Bake for 15 minutes.
    Brush top with melted butter or margarine and bake 5 to 10 minutes longer.
    Serve while hot. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
