Cowboy Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. flour
    2 c. brown sugar
    2/3 c. shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    2 eggs
    1 c. sour milk (add 1 tsp. vinegar)
Preparation
    Measure the flour, shortening, salt and brown sugar into a bowl; work to fine crumbs.
    Remove 1/2 cup of mixture; save to sprinkle on top of cake.
    To the remaining crumbs, add baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and baking soda.
    Add well beaten eggs to the sour milk, then stir into the dry mixture and beat until smooth.
    Bake in layers; sprinkle with reserved crumbs.
    Cinnamon and nut meats may be sprinkled on top.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes.
    Serve hot.
