Macaroon Brownies - cooking recipe

1 pkg. fudge brownie mix
2 egg whites
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. almond extract
1 c. finely chopped almonds
1 c. coconut
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0. Grease 13 x 9 pan. Prepare brownies according to package for cake-like brownies. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Put egg whites in medium bowl. Beat at high speed until foamy. Beat in sugar gradually until meringue forms firm peaks. Add almond extract. Fold in almonds and coconut. Spread over warm brownies. Bake 12 to 14 minutes, until meringue is set and lightly browned. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
