Ingredients

2 sq. (2 oz.) unsweetened chocolate
1 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
pinch of salt
whipped cream (optional)
cocoa powder (optional)
cherries or other berries for garnish
Preparation

Coarsely chop the chocolate.
Set aside.
Stir sugar and cornstarch together in small saucepan until thoroughly blended. Gradually stir in milk until blended.
Add chopped chocolate. Cook, stirring over medium, until chocolate is melted and mixture begins to boil.
Cook, stirring, until thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in vanilla and salt.
Pour into four custard cups.
Cool at room temperature before serving.
Whip the cream, if used.
Add a spoonful to each.
Dust with cocoa powder or garnish.
