Yorkshire Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 oz. margarine
    8 oz. soft brown sugar
    8 oz. treacle or syrup
    12 oz. plain flour
    4 tsp. ground ginger
    3 tsp. cinnamon or mixed spice
    2 eggs, beaten
    1/2 pt. milk
    2 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
Preparation
    Grease and line a 12 x 8-inch pan.
    Preheat the oven to 350\u00b0. Gently heat margarine, sugar and syrup until just melted.
    In a bowl, sift the flour, ginger and cinnamon; mix well until evenly colored.
    Stir in the melted mixture.
    Beat the eggs into this mixture.
    Warm the milk until lukewarm; add the bicarbonate of soda.
    Beat well until smooth and even (mixture will be very soft).
    Pour mixture into greased pan and bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hours.
    Leave in the baking pan for about 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
