Flat Branch Raisin Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. raisins
    3/4 to 1 c. water
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 3/4 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. pecans
Preparation
    Cook the raisins in the water.
    Remove from heat; stir in the soda.
    While the raisins are cooking, mix the remaining ingredients as directed.
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add eggs; mix well.
    Add flour; stir in raisins, water and nuts.
    Spread into a well-greased cookie sheet with sides (jelly roll pan). Batter will be thin, but will rise.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes.
    Frost with powdered sugar icing.
    Cut into bars.
