Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. water
    1/2 c. dry split green peas
    1/4 c. dry lima beans
    1/8 c. uncooked barley
    1 yellow onion, chopped
    1 bay leaf
    1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1 carrot, chopped
    1 stalk celery, chopped
    1 white potato, chopped
    1/4 tsp. paprika
    1 Tbsp. parsley flakes
    1/2 tsp. dried basil
    1/8 tsp. black pepper
    dash of white pepper
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Place the water in a large soup pot. Add peas, limas, barley, onion, bay leaf and celery.
    Seed and cook 1 1/2 hours.
    Add the remaining ingredients and cook an additional 45 minutes to 60 minutes.
    Serves 4.
    Cooking time is 2 1/2 hours.
