Ingredients

2 c. all-purpose white flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. vegetable shortening
1 c. buttermilk (approximately)
Preparation

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, soda, sugar and salt.
Cut in shortening with pastry blender or fingers. Add buttermilk, all at once, stirring with a fork to make a soft, sticky dough.
Add a little more buttermilk if dough is too dry. With floured hands, pat dough evenly into greased 9-inch round cake pan.
