Ingredients

2 c. sugar
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
salt to taste
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation

Combine sugar, brown sugar, butter, buttermilk, baking soda and salt in a saucepan.
Cook over low heat until mixture forms a soft ball in cold water.
Remove from heat.
Set in a larger pan of cold water; let stand until cool.
Add vanilla.
Beat until smooth and creamy, adding a small amount of milk or reheating for a short time, if necessary for desired spreading consistency.
